With the current H1N1 Flu situation, our office has been inundated with calls and requests for presentations on pandemic flu, influenza, workplace safety, prevention and situational awareness.  These events are indeed available and we encourage you to consider the implications of this recent threat.  Like with severe weather,  panic is never a good option, and as always, we believe that with more education, we will need less response.  For several years now, C4L Director Eddy Weiss has presented to churches, schools, organizations, corporations and governmental agencies on influenza, pandemics, bio-hazards and infectious diseases.

Now may be the time to educate your employees, their families, your colleagues or organization's members with just such a presentation or in-service event.

With H1N1 at a pandemic level, we need to realize that a human-to-human spread of a new virus is capable of causing serious community outbreaks that could effect us all.  The Chasing4Life staff is hard at work to make sure that we are aware of the constant changes as they happen and we are updating these presentations as new information becomes available. While you consider these events, please make sure you take these simple measures to protect your family, your workplace, school and others:

+Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough

+Dispose of tissues immediately after use

+Avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose as this is how germs are spread easily

+Try to avoid contact with sick people

+If you are sick, please stay home from school or work until you are well

final_new_logo_copy.jpgThe symptoms of H1N1 in people are similiar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue.  Some people have reported diarhea and vomiting associated with H1N1. In the past, severe illness (pneumonia and respiratory failure) and deaths have been reported with H1N1 infection with people.  Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

"Eddy Weiss has provided information to Head Start Child and Family Development, Inc. and guided our organization to set a plan in place for health emergencies such as a pandemic.  With this plan our organization will be able to continue to serve children and families..."

~Linda Eberle, Family Specialist, Head Start Child & Family Development, Inc.

"We were totally shocked that the attendees of the seminar were our major employers, many with corporate parents...This seminar was such an eye opener for us! The information was great and relationships established that day are invaluable."

~Jennifer Wolf, Executive Director, Dawson County Development, Dawson County, Nebraska
