Watch as kindergarteners learn about how radar works, how tornadoes are like two year olds and why storm chasing is important. We learn about how tornadoes grow and what they look like, and most importantly, how we can protect ourselves in the face of severe weather!Primary and Secondary Grade Schoolers learn about weather monitoring, the importance of storm chasing and how to react to severe weather warnings. They'll watch tornadoes grow from beautifully picturesque natural occurrences to deadly threats. Attacking the minds of older children... we enter the assemblies and events for Junior and Senior High students. Our educators come ready and equipped to battle complacency and boredom with stand-up comedy, hard facts about severe weather safety and a challenge to act responsibly during severe weather. It is during these assemblies that the focus turns to the importance of education, paying attention to school studies and making solid plans for our futures. Don't forget that across the country we're meeting demand for presentations on the New Madrid Earthquake Zone and the history of Midwest earthquakes. Hurricanes, national preparedness issues, agro-terrorism, bio-terrorism and pandemic flu are also just some of the topics we're covering in various assemblies and events throughout the country's schools and libraries. Trying to add to your library programming? Start early if you wish (after some coffee of course), with a reading from "Aunt Minnie and The Twister" by Mary Skillings Prigger (or any weather book of your choice) with the little ones. Sometimes you may just choose for a "Purple Tornado" story-time!Grab your elementary grade patrons for tornado facts and a lesson about radar and storm chasing, lessons on severe weather safety and factoids along with stories of storm chases from present day and long ago. We allow you to fill in the day with programs for different age groups, maximizing every hour you have us with you! Don't leave out your community's adults and/or seniors! Set aside a special presentation for your local seniors for a presentation on storm chasing, severe weather history and really get them talking when we discuss why America is losing its resilience to disasters! Wrap up the day with a community event for all ages as we present on the importance of home disaster kits, making a family communication plan and we'll make a list of the threats to your community, encouraging folks to search the library after we've gone to learn more about staying safe. ATTENTION: Many tours feature only one of our educators and has a set list of available programs. Please ask about what programs are currently available on the tour you are interested in. Make sure to ask if there are any incentives, grants or discount opportunities before booking any Chasing4Life event."I can describe the Chasing4life Team with one word: SPARK. SPONTANEOUS. POSITIVE. AWESOME. REFRESHING. KNOWLEDGEABLE." ~ Theresa McMahan, Director, Sullivan Public Library "Our Chasing4Life event was the best event we have sponsored at the library since I have been here...everyone who attended your programs that day enjoyed them greatly...I'm sure that the time spent with you will be a priceless memory and will add fuel to their interest in the subject of weather...from the pre-schoolers to the Seniors, everyone was enthralled with your presentations...it takes a special person to be able to relate to such a wide range of ages...thank you so much!" ~Valerie Doyle, Pontiac Illinois Library
